Since opening in August 2013, the Conservas Shop has sold more than one million cans of preserves. Now, move on to a new business area – the restaurant – when you open two restaurants in the heart of Lisbon.
It is on Rua da Assunção and Arsenal Street that we can find the new spaces of the city, dedicated, as it could not be, to the preserves. However, with a novelty: the typical tuna or sardine tins, for example, gain new life thanks to the cuisine of author, signed by chefs André Palma and Tiago Neves.
According to the National Association of the Conserveira Portuguesa Industry (ANICP), which invigorates the two projects (store and restaurant), the novelty is intended to complement the previous experience. “The launch of a gastronomic project is the natural course of the Canning Shop which, more than a shop and restaurant, is a platform that aims to bring the whole industry together in the promotion and dissemination of preserved fish as an accessible, healthy, versatile and gourmet product , and can be a unique ingredient in the making of a plate at the table of the Portuguese », comments Castro and Melo, secretary general of ANICP.
The same person in charge advances that the concept will be replicated in Oporto, «the next place to welcome this gastronomic experience».
For now, in Lisbon, it is possible to try around 20 entrees, appetizers and desserts. Tuna Croquettes, Tuna Salad with Curry, Bacalhau à Brás, Alentejo Migas accompanied by Spicy Sardines and Cod Pataniscas with Bean Rice are some of the options.
In the field of desserts, the suggestions range from Mousse de Azeitão Cheese to Pudding Abade de Priscos and Semifrio de Cavala (the sweet of the house).
